kids dealing with NO

Not all about me

Usually, I speak about my experience as a mom. How I handle the rejection dealing with my children’s experiences in the industry. Recently I have been so caught up in all my feelings of rejection. I have realized I need to also offer ways that children can also process their emotions.

As a kid model/actor, rejection can be a tough part of the industry. Here are some tips for dealing with rejection:

  1. Understand that rejection is a part of the industry: Rejection is a normal part of being an actor, even for the most successful actors. Remind yourself that it’s not personal and that it’s a part of the process.
  2. Don’t take it personally: Remember that the decision to reject you is not a reflection of your talent or worth as a person. It’s important to separate your self-worth from the outcome of auditions.
  3. Keep a positive attitude: Stay positive and focus on the next opportunity. Use rejection as an opportunity to learn and grow as an actor.
  4. Take care of yourself: Make sure to take care of yourself physically and emotionally. Eat well, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep. Find activities outside of acting that make you happy and help you relax.
  5. Talk to someone: Don’t be afraid to talk to someone about your feelings of rejection. Whether it’s a parent, friend, or therapist, it can be helpful to share your experiences and feelings with someone who understands what you’re going through.
  6. Keep practicing: Keep practicing your craft and taking acting classes. The more you practice, the better you will become, and the more confident you will feel in auditions.

Remember that rejection is a natural part of the acting industry, and it doesn’t define you as a person or actor. Stay positive, keep practicing, and take care of yourself.

Finally one thing that I have told my children and it seems to help in this process.  Put rejection into perspective.  Even to be considered to be asked to be on a list, to audition, for a casting is an honour.  It’s a first step that many people don’t ever even get.  There are kids out there that would love a chance to just to be considered. This is something that we can all take as a plus.  The road to confirmation involves several layers of rejection.  Congratulations you actually made it to the first several rounds!
