Start them early
Since we’ve moved to Singapore you will see us wearing a lot more of clothing for tropical weather. However with sun exposure you will see that we are a lot more covered up than what you would think. I really don’t want my children to have a future problems with skin issues as the sun gets more potent due to even climate change. We do our best to avoid having new moles. As you get older, these moles have a better chance of becoming cancerous. So it’s a good thing to start early so your kids are already used to keeping up with skin maintenance.
Prevention with Kids
I am the biggest fan of rashguards for my kids. Honestly I would like them to wear something that looks like a legging. I think these are fabulous. It’s good for kids because nowadays they so many extra allergies.
SPF
My son is allergic to most sunblocks! So that’s why I usually get something from the Pharmacy. I’m not a big fan of the all natural because once I used a product and it didn’t protect them. I still have #momguilt over sunburnt babies. So since we move often the products tend to change country by country. I recommend to go to your nearest chemist and speak to the pharmacist to find the best brands for children.
Putting it ON
As a rule I try not to buy American products too much, always too many chemicals. So I tend to stick to European products. I find them to have less harmful ingredients and my kids tend to have better reactions to them. We make sure to reapply religiously every sixty to ninety minutes (even the waterproof creams). That requires about ten minutes out of the pool time. My kids can’t stand usually so i make it a short refueling and refresh time with water and snacks.
Refresh me
We try not to go to pool or beach during the hours of 10am to 3pm, so that they’re not absorbing the most potent rays of the sun. Even if it’s a cloudy day! However if we do go we pick the shadiest area by the water. We always apply a lot of moisturizer afterwards to their skin and encourage drinking lots of water.
Shop Asia
Finding skin gels, creams and lotions with Aloe are great. There are some awesome Korean brands like Nature Republic and Holika Holika out there we love. The kids always wear a sun protective hat or visor in the pool too. If your skin is sensitive to sun, shop the swimwear made for Asian markets.
