Content Creating 101
As a digital content creator, you need your online presence fresh and interesting. A big part is to keep up with trends so your audience will continue following you. This is a part of process of that I have to do weekly.
easy way to entertain audiences
If you haven’t noticed travel blogs and social media accounts are popular. I feel travel is one of the easiest ways to producing new content. I can travel a lot right now. We’re quite lucky because we do live in an area where we can drive or fly for an hour and be in a new country. Before I go, I look at the hashtags of the country or city and see some interesting things in that area. So yes I totally copy locations based by other creators but isn’t copying the most sincere form of flattery?
research social media
While searching hashtags, look at the popularity of locations. Take inspiration of the photos that other people posting, and how many people have liked the account. You can then start determining the number of places you want to shoot. For a planned shoot I won’t do more than one location in a day. If you plan to shoot several locations, make sure you change your clothes for each location! That way it can look like new days in your account, the more content the better! Back to clothing, I tend to pick clothing from current season. I also like to choose from designers/brands that are from the country you are shooting in. By doing that you are adding another layer to your story you are trying tell.
time of day
So I usually try to go early in the morning because that’s the best time. There are less people around and you can feel more free to take photos without interruption. That said tone hour before sunset has amazing natural light. It’s also known as golden hour, so if you’re handy at photoshop at removing people from your background then try your luck then.
Do’s of photos for social media
- Try to make the photo look not so cluttered and busy.
- Take photos from all angles first. Then determine from looking at the photos, the best location.
- Make sure the light is goo. Typically the light source should be behind the head, of who’s taking the photo. The subject’s face should be nicely lit and have no shadows.
- Shoot with continuous shutter, which makes it many frames. That way if you feel worried that you don’t have the perfect photo, you will still enough photos to work with once you get back to your computer.
Lightroom
And finally, once you download the photos to Lightroom you can edit photo that aren’t necessarily perfect. Yet you can still manage to make them look better. Please reference my previous blog post on Lightroom. With Lightroom you change the colours and tones, so that it fits well with the theme.
Plan B
If you don’t have a camera, or if you don’t think you take a good photo. Then while doing your research looking on Instagram earlier check for local photographers in the area. If you like their style, contact them because many would love a gig!
And that’s the first step in content creating.
