Miniguide Higher learning

Part 2 Several Paths

Higher learning doesn’t have to lead to university. Instead it should be a future where your child can become an adult that doesn’t have rely on you

All schools are not equal

In the states university education is a big business. We have thousands of schools. Many are good and many are bad… really bad. In my opinion some are a total waste of money, because these universities will never get you that rewarding career to pay off it’s cost.

Freedom even in education

Now normally in Europe and other countries around the age of 15, formal nationalized schooling ends. This is the point where you have to place into some kind of exam to determine if you are university material. I also know of some countries which even determine what your major/interest in university should be according to your score. BUT If you do not qualify or you don’t have IQ enough to do what you really want, then just come to America! As long as you can pay we will let you do whatever you want.

The apprentice

Europe also has something the US doesn’t, it’s well respected apprenticeship programs. Instead of going to university you can start learning a trade at age 15/16. This starts with apprenticeship training. As more people choose to go to university those who can do a trade are high in demand. It can come with great lifestyle because eventually you are your own boss and you make your own hours. The financial commitment is also very low cost. I have found that many Americans don’t want to do a trade anymore. Sadly, many believe it’s beneath us.

Easy = don’t waste your $

Since universities are a business, let me tell you from off the bat… if an university approaches students these are the ones that Korean people would avoid. If they need to invite applicants outside of a college fair without seeing your credentials then they are not selective enough. If you go to a school that is not selective when you apply for jobs it will be very obvious to your employer. Don’t even think about going there unless you get a full scholarship.

Too much ego

Many people in American feel that trade is beneath them. Sometimes if a parent works in trade, often they want a university education for their child. They feel that their children should have college educations. However they don’t realize success does not equate with a university degree from a less prestigious school. If the university is not in the Top 100, then you should note that the getting a position with higher salary will really be impossible.
