Minitalk School Lunch

Do you have a picky eater?

I grew up in a house where I didn’t like vegetables until I was in my teens.  So I knew that this would basically come back to bite me.  I have some children that are highly suspicious of attempts to feed them what they think of as unnecessary vegetables. They love to look and thoroughly examine the food before placing into their mouths.

I have found one thing though!

School lunch has been my savior in getting the kids more nutrients. For some reason kids when they’re around each other, they will eat all the food just to be social.  So I always look forward to a lunch provided by the school.  However this time my school doesn’t have a canteen!

I know my school lunch

Now when I talk to you, I have sent my kids to school in four different countries. All kinds of lunch been provided for my kids at these schools. So I usually prefer than buying lunch versus bringing one from home.  Another plus is the local cuisine (exact opposite of American schools) tends to be healthier and tends to have a lot less sugar and a lot more whole foods.

My mom shame

Just last week I was told that I’m not providing a lunch that is adequate for my child. Along with local cuisine, you can find different attitudes about what to eat for lunch.  Many people will only consider a lunch that’s hot. For their kids, they think it’s more filling. For me, I was used to having a brown bag with a sandwich, a piece of fruit and maybe some chips.  That’s what I was doing for my kids I had no idea that this was not an adequate amount of food.

Childhood obesity

I have some personal experience.  I came to the states as a kid from Korea.  The weight gain due to unhealthy foods in my life has made a big impact on me.  I really want to make sure that my children don’t have the same kind of issues that I associate with overeating.  I try to show them proper portions to begin with, they will have better luck at maintaining their health.

Health and habits

My children are in no way overweight. I try to make sure they have as much as exercise as possible.   I make sure to give give them vital nutrients.  What worries me though is we can have with all good intention.  We can pack know our kids the most healthiest thing possible, but that doesn’t mean they will eat it.  Since we’re not there to watch it, what can we do?

Need your input

So with that I want to have a conversation about what we feed our children, and if it is adequate? . Or perhaps maybe we are over feeding them.  For sure I see in Singapore childhood obesity problem.  I think people don’t realize even good healthy food like fruit should have it own correct portion.  Is overeating even healthy foods and make it unhealthy? I want to set up good lifetime habits, so me know what you think!
