Minitorial après ski

pat yourself on the back

Have you ever felt like you’re at the clumsiest person in the world? Don’t worry that’s me!  Now I’m not so bad at life essentials like dance but anything to do with sports… I feel like I’m a desperate failure.

More trauma #koreanmomstyle

I think it also didn’t help growing up in America which is super sports oriented.   As you all know, I was raised partly in Korea and I have a very traditional Korean mother.  By that I mean the woman is scared of anything ever happening to us. Especially if it involved some kind of scar (she would literally die if it happened on your face.  So my mom was super vigilant about any injury.  To this day I’m scared of any ball flying near my face.

Doomed from the start

I started skiing when I was about 11 years old which is sorta old for a beginner.  First I took private lessons with my mother.  This is the woman who sits on huge hot pad eating chestnuts while watching Korean drama all winter.  So the entire time she was complaining that she was so cold.  Then she would constantly remind me how cold I was, by asking if I too was very cold?  Second in true Korean form we went with the Korean church.  We took Korean church van (yes you all should Google this because this is a thing in America).   Finally after skiing during the day we would do praise singing and Bible study at night.  Then after Bible study we would do games, and when Koreans do games we always have physical punishment for the loser.  As you can tell this was a recipe for a disaster.

I know i’m a mess

A big part of how I parent is that I have a lot of faults but I know I have them.  I’m pretty proud that I recognize this but the thing is I don’t want my kids to have these kind of issues.   I want them to be more well-rounded than I am, there’s a lot of things that stop me from enjoying life.  So many my issues have to do with childhood phobias and prejudices, but as my kids get older I encourage them to do the things that I never liked to do.  My fears shouldn’t have to shape their lives.

salvaging this winter

As many of you know we’ve had Covid restrictions now forever.  I am not asking you to cry me a river but it’s been somewhat hard on our family. Since we are expats, we are always moving.   It’s really hard not to see your family over a year and half because an ocean separates you.

In Poland the ski slopes were closed, but two weeks ago the government sent out a message they were opening the mountains.  Earlier I had discussed with my husband already about enrolling the kids into a proper ski school, so he was all for it.  So I made plans to immediately set out to Zakopane! I also arranged it with regular school both kids would do school work in the evening, after skiing in the morning.

complete it with a photoshoot!

I’m really proud, it turned out that the children loved skiing!  Of course in true Korean tiger mom fashion, I also made the kids do a small minitorial for after skiing fashion.  Luckily Zara Kids came out with most stylish Ski Collection this year.    I didn’t think the kids would have a chance to wear them since so many ski resorts are closed.   So it was a great chance to actually wear the clothes, not only was it perfect for the slopes but amazing “après ski”.
